Where Volunteering Begins

As a result of the Bohne Foundation’s support, August, an 18 year old boy will take part in a mission trip (July 6th-July 15th) organized by Saving Moses in Phnom Penh, Camobia. August was adopted in 1999 as a baby in Cambodia. Saving Moses is a global humanitarian organization saving babies (5 & under) every day by meeting the most urgent and intense survival needs where help is least available. On this week long mission trip, August will travel to Phnom Penh, Cambodia and experience NightCare, a revolutionary program that protects the babies and toddlers of sex workers while their mothers work.

Thank you letter from August when he learned the Bohne Foundation would sponsor his trip

Hello, It’s Larry’s younger brother August. Larry has informed me that The Bohne Foundation is interested in sponsoring my mission trip to Cambodia. I would first like to say how extremely grateful I am that you all are helping me get this amazing opportunity. Going on this trip means so much to me, as aforementioned that I was born and adopted from there, and being able to go back eighteen years later leaves me speechless.

This is one of those opportunities I just couldn’t pass up. Because of you I able to go to a country to help all these little children in need of great assistance, as well as I am able to go and see my initial home. I have been donating to this organization for years now, and when this opportunity came up I had to take it.

Thank you again from the bottom of my heart for the support for this trip. You are allowing me to do something truly life-changing and I couldn’t be any more grateful than I am now.

Sincerely,
August

Thank you letter from Joshua Argall after donating Harris Club Bulls tickets to his son that suffers from Muscular Dystrophy

I wanted to write a quick email to thank you for inviting my son to the Blackhawks game. We had an amazing time in the BMO Harris Club and got to see an action-packed Hawks win! We shared pictures from the game on Devin’s MDA Facebook page and tagged the Bohne Foundation and Imperial Crane Services in the post. Please check out his page at http://facebook.com/devinargall if you didn’t get a chance to see the pictures yet. Devin also sent a thank you card in the mail addressed to your location at 7500 Imperial Drive. I figured I’d mention he sent a card since he didn’t know exactly where to send it. I hope it gets to the proper location.

Also, I saw on your website that you provide support to a number of wonderful organizations and engage donors to help make that possible.  I would like to offer our help in any way you can use us. Please let me know if we can help by speaking at an event, writing a letter, or anything else that can help you provide relief to those in need and experiences like the one you granted my son. Please keep my contact information handy and feel free to call or email me any time something comes up that I can help with.

Thank you again for allowing me to witness my son take part in such an amazing occasion. I absolutely loved seeing him filled with excitement and joy. It was a beautiful experience.

SOS Village

Each Christmas, the Bohne Foundation attends SOS Children’s Village in Lockport to host a pizza party and give each house mother and orphanage child a gift for Christmas. As a result of Executive Director, Tim McCormick’s appreciation, read his thank you letter here to the Bohne Foundation.

In December, a proud supporter of the Bohne Foundation reached out to BJ in a time of need to help her and her son. With the help of BJ, Carol and her son were given $2,500 to provide housing in a time in her life when she most needed it. See message below request and thank you letter from her.

BOHNE FOUNDTION REQUEST:
My name is Carrol and I met you at SOS Children’s Village back in 2009.  You helped another parent and me give the parents in both Lockport and Chicago a parent appreciation Spa Day.  Additionally, you backed a Poetry Night for the children in which we featured a poem from your grandmother.  I also assisted with polling the children to see what they wanted for Christmas to help you decide what to get them. And even though I no longer worked for SOS, you told me that it would be okay to remain in contact with you. BJ, I am writing to you today because I and my 12 year son now have the opportunity to have a place to live.  We have been without a home since last year due to the loss of income.  We have been staying with friends, in shelters (where he was physically attacked by an adult male), sleeping in hotel lobbies, riding on busses overnight, and staying in an acquaintance’s business office. I am working now, but having difficulty finding a place to rent, due to eviction and lack of first month’s rent and security deposit.  I spoke to my previous landlord, who now has a recent vacancy.   And despite falling behind on rent before, which led to the eviction, she is willing to allow me to rent with her again, now that I have another job.  Additionally, my son receives death benefits from his father who died of cancer when he was 6. My dilemma is that I don’t have the move-in costs.  I have paid at the various places that we have stayed, which has accumulated to more than rent would have been, and I depleted our savings.   I am asking if I may borrow the first month’s rent ($1,000) and 1 1/2 month’s security deposit (1,500).  I would have it saved in a couple of months but the landlord wants the apartment rented as soon as possible.  She can’t hold it. I can go on a payment plan to repay you or I can set up a payroll deduction for it to come directly out of my check.  With my income, and son’s check I will be able to maintain payments to you and pay rent.  I don’t have car or credit card debt.  I can repay you over a couple of months.  Please let me know if you need any further information or documentation. BJ, I pray that you can help my son and me.  He is a great kid.  He is an honor roll student and a Chicago Children’s Choir Member.  If it were just me, I wouldn’t ask.  I am praying for a stable home for him.  This is a chance for us to get off the street and for him to focus on being a kid and not worrying where we are going to stay each night.  We just want to go to our own home.

THANK YOU FROM CARROL:

My son and I just wanted to thank you again for helping us get off the street.  We are settling into our apartment, and are so very grateful to you for not having to be out in these harsh winter elements.  My son is doing well in school, and in the Chicago Children’s Choir.  He is an honor roll student, and has been even despite our circumstances.  He is able now to have a place to do his homework other than a Starbucks or the lobby of a restaurant or hotel.  And, we are both more rested and able to function  better daily.  Having a place to live is the best birthday and Christmas present my son could have received.  I thank you from the bottom of my heart for making it happen.

Thank you to Rose also for all of her help!  Additionally, if there is ever a time The Bohne Foundation, needs volunteers, my son and I would like to help. Blessings to you and your family!

Carrol
